Frequently Asked Questions

You'll find answers to all of our common questions below, but please contact us if there's anything else you'd like to know

1. How long will it take to complete a quest?

Each quest takes around 1-2 hours, plus extra time for a rest around the mid-point if you wish.

2. What do I need to bring?

The only essential item is a charged mobile phone with data. We also recommend checking the weather for the day and planning accordingly.

3. When can I play?

Once you've purchased a game from our site you can play on any day at any time. However, we recommend starting a quest 2 hours before sunset or you may end up solving some clues in the dark!

4. Do I need a New Zealand mobile number to play?

No. You will be directed to a webpage where you'll receive your clues and send your answers, so please be sure you have internet data.

5. What happens if I get stuck and cannot solve a clue?

You can always ask for a hint if you're stuck on a clue, but if you're really in a bind it's possible to completely skip to the next one. Beware as you will incur a time penalty for doing so.

6. What ages are the quests designed for?

Our standard quests can be tackled by players aged 16 and up. For those with younger players, our family adventures follow the same route with more accessible clues for ages 8 - 15. Note that an adult member should supervise younger players at all times.

7. Are the quests suitable for wheelchair users?

At present our games have not been tested for wheelchair users. If you'd like to try the game for free in return for providing us with feedback, please click here to message us.

8. Will I be able to play if I'm new to the city?

Absolutely. Our quests are designed to have even locals searching for things in their town they've never spotted before.

9. Will I be able to play if English isn't my first language?

Many of our clues are accessible to those with only basic English, though some do involve word-play which could prove challenging for those less-experienced with the language. But remember, you can always ask for a hint or skip the question entirely.

10. Can multiple teams play at the same time?

We encourage groups of 6 or more to split off into separate teams. As they'll both be following the same route, we recommend leaving 15 minutes between each team starting.
